Charities

Many, if not most, ancient parishes have charities to benefit their parishioners. These are usually small charities, often established by a legacy in a parishioner’s will and may have been created as far back as medieval times. Often a church has a board with details of these charities. Shorne does not have such a board but it does have some old charities.

The pages in this section (see the menu in the sidebar on the right of this page) describe these Shorne charities. They all provide benefits specifically for a section of the parishioners in Shorne and many have a connection with the parish church: perhaps in the selection of trustees or maybe just an historical connection. Most of them also have only a small income from their endowments from which to provide benefits.
